Bruce Gulling
Bruce was born in a castle near Paris, France. his mother was a fashion model for Christian Dior, eventually marrying a man who worked for Lilly and moving to the United States. Bruce spent his childhood between Europe and the United States. Bruce feels that his European roots give him a unique background in the arts, particularly the visual arts. His art is strongly impacted by images of armor, swords and castles; images generally involving lots of metal.
As a child in Indianapolis, Bruce reports spending a great deal of time and energy fabricating forts of all kinds in what was then more akin to a wilderness landscape. He was producing Art Deco items in high school and went on to rent a metal shop for a number of years. Currently, Bruce is producing art works full-time.
Bruce bas been associated with the Hoosier Salon for several years. His sculpture of metal flowers won a merit award in the 75th Annual Exhibit. His works have been purchased by corporations and art patrons. Examples of his work may be seen in Agios Restaurant downtown Indianapolis.
Bruce translates more traditional concepts like cityscapes, building and people portraits into metal sculptures and wall pieces. His work is often whimsical and playful. His interest in fabricating continues to guide his approach to sculptures and wall pieces. Bruce has a passion for creating things from scratch, even if the materials have already been used. His sculptures are often created by putting together a variety of materials and metals to make something wholly new.
Bruce foresees a time wben he will guide people tbrough art experiences, rather like conceptual art. He has a passion for creating his works out-of-doors and would like to create an area where people can watch the process.
